PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2023/24
It’s been my honour to be president of Yeppoon Little Theatre for the 2023/24 year.
2023 ended with the very successful “Halloween” production of The Passion of Dracula, in October, followed by a one-off show by TheatreINQ, Townsville, and Midpoint Theatre Company play called Chewing Gum Dreams. Thank you to all involved in both productions.
2024 started with our first coproduction with Rockhampton Little Theatre, The Long and Short of it. This experiment worked very well with shows in Yeppoon and Rockhampton being very well attended. I’d like to thank Vicki and Con for their hard work on getting this production off the ground and we look forward to another in 2025.
In late May Amanda Hock directed Ivy Shambitt and the Sound Machine with a (mostly) young cast. Two of the three shows were sold out and really showed the draw of youth productions. The effort that Amanda put in to this show, on stage and off, deserves a special thanks. I should also thank Elizabeth Westley who came in at the last minute to help with some set construction.
Due to the large gap between the first production and the end of year musical, it was decided to add an extra production to give some of our adult actors and extra opportunity and There’s a girl in my soup, directed by Kerry Kay, was added for a late August/early September performance slot. Unfortunately, the auditions weren’t well attended and it took some time to actually cast the show. The play was a challenge to stage and thanks to Elizabeth, again, or her set design and construction skills, along with the whole cast and crew who pitched in to get the set painted etc. The show was very well received and all credit to Kerry and his cast & crew for a great production. This production was also filmed for a behind the scenes documentary that will be screened next year.
Due to Illness the end of year musical has been postponed. Thank you to Mark Roberts who has stepped in to direct Last tango in Little Grimley.
Finally, I’d like to thank the committee who has worked so hard this year. Everyone has contributed in one way or another and it’s been a great team effort.
I look forward to seeing what our theatre produces in the coming year.
