Synopsis
‘One party, one witness, no one’s talking’
The seaside community of Blackrock is ripped at the seams when a terrible act is committed at a teenage party. This coming of age play brings into the spotlight issues facing teens including teenage drinking, peer pressure and fitting in. First performed by Sydney Theatre Company in 1995, Blackrock is a cult-classic which remains as powerful and as important today as its first season.
About the Playright
Nick Enright
22 December 1950 – 30 March 2003
Nick Enright was one of Australia’s major artistic talents, a prolific writer for film, television, radio and theatre and a dedicated teacher to the young.
Amongst his best-known works are the stage adaptation of the Tim Winton novel ‘Cloudstreet’ and the controversial production of ‘Blackrock’, based on the murder of Newcastle teenager Leigh Leigh.
The high point of Enright’s career came in 1992 when he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for ‘Lorenzo’s Oil’.
Although he was inundated with overseas offers, he chose to stay in Australia, writing about the people and places he knew and loved.
